Goan Association Inc. mourns the loss of Mary Viegas
It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Mary J. Viegas, 85, of Annapolis, Maryland, who passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Sunday, March 1, 2026.
Mary was the beloved wife of the late Joaquim Viegas and a devoted mother to Sharon Viegas. She was a loving and caring presence in the lives of Joaquim’s children—Roque, Gerry, and Belinda—as well as a cherished grandmother to Vanessa Kiernan and a proud great-grandmother to Thomas Kiernan.
Affectionately known as “Jolly,” Mary lived up to her name with a joyful spirit and a warm laugh. She found great happiness in life’s simple pleasures, such as fishing, crabbing, and finding treasures at flea markets. Above all, she loved cooking for her family and friends and visiting her home in Goa. Her warmth and generosity will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Friday, March 13, 2026, at Our Lady of Grace Church (15661 Norbeck Blvd, Silver Spring, MD). Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Mass of Catholic Burial at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
For those unable to attend in person, the funeral will be live-streamed beginning at 10:00 a.m. at: evt.live/mary-jolly-viegas
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sharon Viegas.
